Sustainable and high-performance sportswear are being showcased at the ongoing 29th Summer Universiade games with the participation of 7,700 athletes from 130 countries to compete in 22 athletic categories in Taiwan. The athletes are wearing eco-friendly apparel on the field. The Universiade is the 2nd largest international sporting event in the world.
Also known as the mini Olympics, the Universiade will conclude on August 30, 2017. The event is being hosted for the first time by Taipei. The games are a rare opportunity for Taiwanese companies to showcase their best and latest innovations, especially eco-friendly textile and high-performance sportswear.
Taipei government will convert 200,000 plastic bottles generated from the bottled water during this event into eco-friendly blankets. It is an international platform to showcase top-notch innovative green products from eco-textiles to materials used in its green venues. The torchbearers also wore the designed apparel whose fabric infused with leftover coffee bean grounds.
