At the 2016 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI) the Fabric Touch Tester (FTT) won the Grand Award in the ‘Equipment and Machinery Design’ category. There was a total of 234 entries in the mentioned category, making this award an achievement of note for SDL Atlas.

The FTT was jointly developed by the Hong Kong Research Institute Textile and Apparel (HKRITA) and SDL Atlas. The innovative FTT measures skin touch properties of textiles objectively and quantitatively.

FTT now makes hand measurement possible for everyone. In just a five minute test the FTT measures:
• Thickness
• Compression
• Bending
• Roughness
• Friction
• Thermal Properties

Previously these measurements could only be done on the very expensive and technically complicated Kawabata instruments. “Through combining these indices, the FTT can predict a physical touch and hand value in one simple test,” SDL Atlas said of the innovative and award winning Fabric Touch Tester.
